Election/Eleccion 2019

The Special Election, Proposition A was canvassed and approved by the governing body on May 13, 2019.  The reauthorization of the Local Sales and Use Tax in the City of Ovilla at the rate of one-fourth of one-percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets passed.  

At the closing date for candidate filing, it was determined that there were three applicant filings, one for each position.  Therefore, pursuant to Section 2.051 of the Texas Election Code, a certification of unopposed candidates was presented at the March 11, 2019 Council Meeting to cancel the General Election (only). Two of the three candidates, Mayor Richard Dormier and Place 2 Dean Oberg, took their oaths during the May 13, 2019  Regular Council Meeting. Place 4 Doug Hunt was absent. He was sworn in prior to the May 20 Special Meeting.


Election 2019 Background/History:

Pursuant to Section 141.040 of the Election Code, the Notice of Deadline to File Applications for a Place on a Ballot must be posted no later than the 30th day before the first day to file.  See the link for the Notice recommended by the Secretary of State below.

  • April 04, 2019 - last day to register to vote in general election.
  • April 22, 2019 - first day for early voting by personal appearance. 
  • April 30, 2019 - last day for early voting by personal appearance. 
  • May 04, 2019 - Election Day, polls open 7:00 am - 7:00 pm.
