PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

Job Title:                 Director of Public Works

Status:                         Exempt 
Pay Range:                  $59,000-$84,500

To plan, direct, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the Public Works Department including street maintenance and parks, assist with floodplain administration and construction of new water and wastewater collection systems; to coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager.  Receives general administrative direction from the City Manager. Exercises direct supervision over management, supervisory and technical employees.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:

Education: Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in construction management, civil engineering or a related field.

 Experience/Knowledge: Ten years of increasingly responsible public works experience including four years of management and administrative responsibility.

1.           Operations, services and activities of a comprehensive public works program.
P            Principles and practices of general construction.
3.            Principles and practices of program development and administration.
4.            Methods and techniques of civil engineering.
5.            Principles and practices of municipal budget preparation and administration.
6.            Recent developments, current literature and sources of information related to public infrastructure construction.

9.            Methods and techniques of report preparation.
10          Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.

TCEQ Class “II” Collection license, TCEQ “C” water distribution license.

Job Title:                 Utility Maintenance Worker

Pay Range:             $14.30/hour  -  $20.35/hour

Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing manual labor with a wide variety of construction and maintenance work to include water, sewer, streets, parks, etc.

 

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

·         Assists with repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines, and streets;

·         Performs minor maintenance and service checks on equipment;

·         Operates mowers, and other types of light to heavy equipment;

·         Cleans and removes debris from streets, parks, drainage, ditches, City parks, and other areas;

·         Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

 Job/Driving Requirements:

·         Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance;

·         This position requires a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License;

·         Must have a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License or be able to obtain a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License within 90 days of hiring;

 Physical Requirements:

·         Lifting up to 100 pounds;

·         Standing for extended periods of time.

 Work Hours:

·         8:00a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday;

·         On call one week a month;

·         At the Department’s discretion, the work location and workdays/hours may be subject to change.

Job Title:                 Code Enforcement - Part-time position
Benefits:                  N/A
Status:                      Non-exempt 
Pay Range:              $15.73/hour  -  $22.39/hour
The City of Ovilla is accepting applications for a Part-time Code Enforcement Officer.  The position will be required to work 12-20 hours per week. Weekend work required. The purpose of this position is to identify violations of state and local laws and codes, and to maintain and enhance property values.  Additionally, this position is to provide for the health and safety to the citizens of the City of Ovilla through the enforcement of City ordinances. 
Requirements:     
High School Diploma or equivalent
Physical activity of bending and lifting up to 100 pounds
Standing for extended periods
Required Licenses or Certificates:
Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver’s license
TX Certified Code  Enforcement Officer Certificate
Ability to pursue and obtain additional job-related and certification including septic system inspection training and State Plumbing Inspectors License.
